Choreographer and retired dancer Victor Quijada founded RUBBERBANDance Group (RBDG) as a vehicle to manifest his unique choreographic identity through the creation of powerful and innovative dance works.

For the past fifteen years, RBDG has been redrawing the boundaries of contemporary dance with its singular language. The company reconciles the spontaneity, fearlessness and risk-taking of hip-hop culture with the refinement and choreographic maturity of the ballet.

Beating with the fresh pulse of street attitude and an acute understanding of theatrical staging, Quijada’s choreographies explore human relationships by harnessing the ardor of obsession, the shock of violence, and the delicate nature of tenderness, comedy, and tragedy with a great deal of honesty and courage.

Vic’s Mix
Sometimes humorous, at times emotional, Vic’s Mix spans the immense creative territory of Victor Quijada, extracting a number of jewels from the choreographer’s repertoire. Remixing his own work and orchestrating the clash of urban pop and classical composition, Victor continues to experiment here, challenging notions of theatricality and audience reception, ensuring that each of the bodies moving onstage in these highly athletic tableaus exemplifies the RUBBERBANDance Method. A reflection of the freedom and openness of the ebullient Montreal dance scene, Vic’s Mix is sure to astonish by its stylistic breadth.
