Carnegie Hall presents NYO-USA
NYO-USA 2022 rehearses Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, led by orchestra director James Ross
And now some film music!  In the new movie TÁR, Cate Blanchett plays Lydia Tár, one of the greatest living composer-conductors, and the first female chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic. In an interview with Adam Gopnik at The New Yorker Festival, she promotes several new projects, including most prominently, her upcoming live recording of Mahler’s 5th Symphony. Last summer’s NYO-USA comprised 109 members—ages 16–19 and hailing from 34 US states—who had been recognized by Carnegie Hall as some of the finest players in the country following a comprehensive national audition process. In preparation for its performance activities in the New York area and abroad, NYO-USA worked with an impressive list of principal players from many of the nation’s top professional orchestras during its training residency at Purchase College, SUNY.  Following an intensive two-week residency and a concert at Carnegie Hall on July 29, this incredible group of instrumentalists, led this summer by Daniel Harding and joined by guest cellist Alisa Weilerstein, embarked on a four-city European tour.
