What a night. The Concert Hall was full almost to capacity on Friday, October 26, when we presented the stereotype-smashing duo Black Violin. Through their music, which is a high-energy mash-up of classical, pop, and hip-hop, Wil Baptiste (viola) and Kev Marcus (violin) strive to encourage and empower people of all ages and backgrounds to make connections, rise above labels, be daring enough to follow their dreams, and most of all, be true to themselves.

What made this night even more inspiring was the participation of an orchestra 111 players strong backing up the band. 40 members of Purchase College’s own Purchase Symphony Orchestra plus 71 talented young people from 7 area high schools (Bronxville, Hendrick Hudson, New Rochelle, Sleepy Hollow, White Plains, Valhalla, and Hackley) had the unique and undoubtedly unforgettable opportunity to rehearse and perform with Black Violin.
