Since our season began in early October, The Purchase PAC’s theaters have been ringing with the sound of “Bravo!”
While we have some of the warmest audiences in the region — and I know this from the many conversations I enjoy with patrons in the lobby at all our events — the strength of reactions to our October programming has taken even me by surprise. From the cheers for Vitamin String Quartet on opening night, to the love for Endea Owens, to the incredible energy at the conclusion of the Compagnie Herve Koubi dance performance, and to the outpouring of “bravos” following the scintillating Chamber Music Concert of Lincoln Center Brahms and Dvorak concert, our halls have been ringing with enthusiasm and calls for encores. And the trend seems to be continuing into November…
While these days the shouting of “bravo” is a universal term, used to show appreciation for exceptional artistry, its origins lie in the Italian word meaning “brave.” This is why these cheers are so rewarding to us at this time: they celebrate commitment, artistry, and pleasure, a sign that our theaters — nestled as they are among the backyards of Westchester — are home to creative and passionate audiences appreciating the bravery of our artists.
I look forward to seeing you in the lobby and sharing these cheers with you throughout our season, and as we do, celebrating together the pleasure and audacity of live performance shared with a local audience. Bravo!
