CMS of Lincoln Center presents Rachmaninoff: The Composer, a program celebrating the life and work of supreme virtuoso pianist and composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff; the year 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of his birth. Rachmaninoff stole the hearts of listeners worldwide with achingly beautiful melodies and alluring harmonies and emerged as one of the last great Romantic composers.

This concert pairs his singular voice with those of his mentors and contemporaries, tracing the lineage of his particular style of piano-forward composition.

Closing the program is Rachmaninoff’s three-movement Trio élégiaque in D minor, written in 1893. The then 20-year-old Rachmaninoff was badly shaken by the sudden death of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and composed this soulful piece in the style of Tchaikovsky’s famous Piano Trio as an homage to his mentor.

Join us at 4:15pm in the lobby for a pre-concert talk with members of CMS. Free with your ticket!
