Purchase Repertory Theatre: The Bacchae of Euripides

Purchase Repertory Theatre presents Nigerian playwright and Nobel Prize winner Soyinka’s adaptation of the most tragic of Greek plays, that tells the story of the god Dionysus’s revenge on a king who disrespects him. Less solemn and in more modern language than other translations, Soyinka’s version highlights political themes like distrust of foreigners and the dangers of tyrannical leadership.
